Everything you need to start as a delivery rider in Dubai, from the motorcycle licence and RTA certificate to what riders really earn.
Food and grocery delivery is one of the biggest sources of driver jobs in Dubai. Thousands of riders work for platforms and delivery companies. Here's what you need to start.
1. A UAE motorcycle licence
You need a UAE motorcycle licence, not just a car licence. If your home motorcycle licence comes from an eligible country you may be able to convert it. Otherwise you'll train and test at a driving school. Many delivery companies help with this; ask whether they pay. See our UAE licence guide.
2. The RTA rider qualification certificate
In Dubai, motorbike delivery riders also need a driver qualification certificate from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). It comes after a training programme covering defensive driving, safety rules and basic bike maintenance. Your company registers you; delivery companies must register their riders with the RTA.
3. Company rider or "own visa, own bike"?
- Company rider: the company gives you the visa, bike and often accommodation. You get a base salary plus per-order incentives.
- Own visa / own bike: higher per-order earnings, but you pay for your bike, fuel, insurance, maintenance and visa.
What riders earn
Company riders typically earn a base of roughly AED 1,800–2,400 plus incentives. Busy riders who work peak hours can reach AED 2,500–3,500. Own-car app drivers advertise higher totals, but their costs are higher too. See our UAE driver salary guide.
Staying safe
- Wear your helmet and safety gear on every trip.
- Don't use your phone while riding.
- Take breaks in summer heat and drink water.
- Know the rules: delivery bikes must stay in the permitted lanes on major roads.

Common questions
Can I deliver by car instead of a bike?
Yes. Some platforms and companies hire car and van drivers, especially for groceries and e-commerce, with different pay structures.
Who pays for the RTA training?
Often the delivery company, but some deduct it from salary. Ask before you join.
How many hours do riders work?
Many riders work long shifts with peak-hour targets. Check your contract's hours, breaks and day off.
Do I need my own phone?
Yes, usually a smartphone with a data plan for the delivery app. Some companies give a SIM or a phone allowance.
RTA requirements change from time to time. Check with the RTA or your employer for the current rules.
