How Qatar's minimum wage works for drivers, what each allowance means, and typical pay for different driver jobs.
Qatar was the first Gulf country to introduce a non-discriminatory minimum wage that covers all workers, including house drivers and other domestic workers. If you're considering a driver job in Qatar, understand this before you look at any offer.
The minimum wage
- Basic wage: at least QAR 1,000 a month.
- Food: if the employer doesn't provide food, they must add at least QAR 300.
- Housing: if the employer doesn't provide accommodation, they must add at least QAR 500.
So the legal minimum is:
- QAR 1,000 if both food and housing are provided free
- QAR 1,300 if housing is provided but not food
- QAR 1,800 if neither is provided
An offer of "QAR 1,000 + 300" usually means QAR 1,000 basic plus QAR 300 food allowance, with accommodation provided.
Typical driver pay in Qatar
Most experienced drivers earn more than the minimum. As a rough guide from advertised jobs:
- House driver: often QAR 1,500–2,500 with accommodation and food, more for drivers with good English or Arabic.
- Company / light driver: often QAR 1,800–3,000 depending on experience and benefits.
- Taxi and limousine driver: a basic salary plus commission or targets; total pay depends on hours and trips.
- Heavy and bus driver: often QAR 2,000–3,500 plus overtime.
